Up until late 2008, ChexSystems allowed people with poor ChexSystems records to take a class through a program called Get Checking. The program has now been terminated.
The termination of this program makes it even more difficult for people with negative items on their ChexSystems consumer reports to get decent bank accounts.
Here’s a quote from the announcement made by ChexSystems about the termination of the program:
"After careful consideration and discussions with industry partners, we have decided to end our affiliation with the Get Checking program effective December 31, 2008, at which point we will cease noting consumer files with information on the completion of the Get Checking program.
Get Checking was launched in an effort to provide consumers access to financial services despite past difficulty in managing personal finances. While we remain committed to helping consumers find access to needed financial services, recent studies of consumer activity following completion of the Get Checking program point to significant deterioration in performance objectives of successfully managing a checking account after program completion. This, coupled with the proliferation of our scored account decisioning products which are better able than legacy products at helping institutions open more accounts and manage the associated risk at an account level led to our decision to no longer participate in the Get Checking program.
We will continue to support the existing network of Get Checking educators and accept course completion information for consumers through the end of 2008. The QualiFile and New Account Chex products, which are able to utilize the Get Checking course completion data, will continue to do so through the one-year expiration period of the data."
It has been reported that there are several banks that are participating in a program called Checking Network USA
-They have partnered with the FDIC to help individuals who do not have a banking relationship gain access to financial services. Checking Network USA and the FDIC recognize the importance of financial education, particularly for people with little or no banking experience, as the foundation for successful personal money management and life-long financial practices.
Consumers who have been reported to ChexSystems need to order their FREE chexsystems report, thoroughly review their report and make sure there is no fraud codes listed.
Consumers who have been reported to ChexSystems due to an account closure for fraud or suspected fraud activity are ineligible to participate in Checking Network USA’s.
This is an ONLINE program that costs $60.00
The banks that have partnered with Checking Network USA are as follows:
Florida: First Bank..program has not started yet.. they are still working on it
Georgia: Best Bank
South Carolina: First Reliance Bank
Wisconsin: Best Bank and Guaranty Bank
It is unclear if other Locations of First Bank is also participating in this program. We are in the process of finding out this information and will update ASAP. It is also clear that not all of the banks listed on their site participate in the program so be sure to contact a local bank near you to be certain if they do or not.
Before signing up for one of these programs, we do recommend that you view the list of non-chexsytems banks and credit unions that we provide at ChexSystemsVictims. There may be a bank or credit union local to you that does not require this program. We have also been told by several people that they were able to open accounts at Best Bank and Guaranty Bank without the program. Apparently it depends on the report and what is actually on it.
At ChexsystemVictims, we can help you with all the help that you need with chexsystems related issues. At ChexsystemsDisputes.com we can also help you with chexsystems removal and free sample letters.
